Grad workers’ continued pressure on admin led to another productive bargaining session on Tuesday. Penn admin presented a response on Discipline and Dismissal, which they’ve been sitting on since November 21st. Admin also delivered a counterproposal on Prohibition of Discrimination and Harassment. While admin’s latest response improves upon their previous proposal, Penn still insists upon maintaining the right to unilaterally change policies related to discrimination, harassment, and abusive conduct. Additionally, admin’s proposal lacks any clear definition of what would constitute harassment and abusive conduct, and would remove many of the protected categories our proposal includes.
In order to push admin to agree to fair and adequate protections against discrimination, harassment, and abusive conduct, grad workers across Penn are signing this petition demanding broad and enforceable rights. As attacks against diversity initiatives and the rights of international workers escalate, it’s vital that we continue pressuring admin to agree to a fair contract. It becomes clearer with every session that it is only through collective, majority action, that we can move admin to make the concessions we need.
