Admin “doesn’t want to give us a timeline and get boxed in”

Yesterday, grad workers met with Penn admin for our fourth bargaining session. For three sessions in a row — over one month — admin has failed to respond at all to 12 of the non-economic proposals we have presented so far. When asked when we can expect responses, admin responded, “We don’t want to give a timeline and get boxed in.”

To show Penn that we won’t stand for their delay tactics, join over 800 grad workers in signing our open letter insisting that the University respond to our proposals in a timely manner, bargain in good faith, and involve the subject matter experts necessary to make serious movement on our proposals in bargaining. In today’s session:

The University responded to our proposals on Grievance and Arbitration, Discipline and Dismissal, and Employment Records.
We presented counter proposals on Grievance and Arbitration, Discipline and Dismissal, and Management and Academic Rights.
We reached a tentative agreement on Severability after a lot of unnecessary pushback from Penn on this boilerplate article.
We presented proposals on Waiver and Past Practices in response to the University’s Full Agreement proposal. Penn rejected our Past Practices proposal entirely.

The university has thus far failed to engage with our proposals in a timely manner. To push management to take Penn grad workers more seriously, sign on to our open letter to admin demanding fast and fair negotiations!
